The title of this post represents the name of my first release of this year. I am planning on three.
Today, I called up The Darker Light on my iPhone. I’ve got two days to prepare for the RPM Challenge, and since I am having to change direction pretty quickly, I figured starting there would be good.
I am not composing the album I thought I would be for RPM ’10; Blood Moon’s release is on hold. So now all my playlists have to get shuffled. I need new ones that reflect the tone of what this new album, “2010A”, will sound like. That’s the first thing I need to do.
Putting on The Darker Light was like hugging an old friend you haven’t seen in years and the moment you touch them, everything comes flooding back. Every touch, smell, bad joke, tear, scrape, and laugh, all in one moment. Tracy, I’m looking at you.
I hadn’t listened to the album in many months; I have a much better sense of where I’ve been now. All the memories of writing it came back — including all the frustrations as well. As I said, I need all new playlists, and I have to settle on a direction, soon. I am thinking the new album is going to be a followup. I’m still working out the details, but I DEFINITELY hear C-minor. Can’t get that out of my head.
The way I tend to work is by compiling playlists of songs that most closely match what it is I am trying to write. I don’t ‘steal’ other people’s music, but I cannot deny that other’s music influences me. That’s why I set up the playlists; it helps me to set a tone and a mood for myself, and evokes emotions in me I then try to recapture with my own voice.
I will be posting up daily to indicate progress. Likely I will release 128k mp3s (which are decent quality but not what you’d get from iTunes or Amazon) of the work as it proceeds. After February 28th, I’ll submit it to Tunecore and get it up on iTunes, Amazon, and the like. Look for the announcements in March.
But that’s getting ahead of myself. Time to prepare: T – 2 days and counting.
